Our kits are the same hull design and quality of materials as provided in our production boats. Our kits are easy to assemble, taking approximately 40 to 60 hours to build. All of the critical saw cuts are done for you and the frames are dry assembled without glue. You glue them with the epoxy provided. All side and bottom panels come full length, with the side panels cut to shape. The hardwood gunwales and chines will be full length, so you do not have to scarf the wood, a technically difficult procedure that we do for you. All marine grade fasteners, meaning silicon bronze and stainless steel screws and nails, are provided, as well as the glues, caulking and sealers. Two gallons of Gougeon Brothers W.E.S.T. System epoxy are also provided to use as a glue and a coating, Ray's River Dories kit boats are easy to build, even if you have never built a boat before.
All boats and boat kits are constructed of Douglas Fir plywood. Optionally priced African Sapele plywood is available.
Our boat and kit bottoms will have a fiberglass/epoxy/graphite composite. We have extensively tested this type of coating and have found it superior to any other type of boat bottom. Our process makes the bottom super slick, tough against rock impact and most importantly, the process seals out the water.
